ACCORDING TO THE THOMAS GOSPEL
72. A [person said] to him, "Tell my brothers to divide my father's possessions with me." He said to the person, "Mister, who made me a divider?" He turned to his disciples and said to them, "I'm not a divider, am I?"
Interpretation :
The teacher is not a divider, he is a unifier.
82. Jesus said, "Whoever is near me is near the fire, and whoever is far from me is far from the (Father's) kingdom."
Interpretation :
Whoever remains near to the teacher & the self (near me), loves both, is near to the loving puri-fire (is near the fire) that destroys the ego and brings enlightenment (the kingdom). Whoever holds a distance from the teacher & the self (is far from me), is far from attaining enlightenment (the kingdom). It just can't be 'your' enlightenment.
88. Jesus said, "The messengers and the prophets will come to you and give you what belongs to you. You, in turn, give them what you have, and say to yourselves, 'When will they come and take what belongs to them?'"
Interpretation :
The angels (messengers) and saints (prophets) bring us the truth of love, which is already ours (what belongs to you). We then feel grateful (in turn) and give them what we have (what you have), such as food and shelter. But we are still feeling indebted and fear that these angels and saints may return to reclaim (come and take) this great wealth, of which we feel unworthy (what belongs to them). However, nothing needs to be returned or retaken. Truth and love do not become less by sharing. There is no need to feel indebted to those who share it. The closer we come to the self, the more we will understand that it belongs to each and everyone.
90. Jesus said, "Come to me, for my yoke is comfortable and my lordship is gentle, and you will find rest for yourselves."
Interpretation :
Come to the teacher, for his union or yoga (yoke) is easy (comfortable) and his teaching (lordship) is gentle. Follow the teachings and you will have peace (find rest).
